Why migrate from LangChain/LangGraph to Agno

A technical perspective on the agent ecosystem: when LangChain/LangGraph still makes sense and when Agno offers practical advantages.

2025-05-08 · By willsamy · English edition

The discussion of LangChain/LangGraph versus Agno became practical as agent-based products reached production. Here is my perspective.

Where LangChain/LangGraph still shines

  • A broad ecosystem and community, with many examples, integrations and tutorials.
  • Composability: explicit chains and graphs help when you need to visualize complex flows.
  • Established patterns: memory, retrievers, tools and callbacks have widely accepted conventions.

If you already have a substantial LangGraph implementation with integrated observability and trained operators, a smooth migration requires a clear plan.

Why Agno may be a better choice

  • Simpler tool-oriented agents: less boilerplate for an agent that talks, decides and calls tools with minimal state.
  • Pragmatic orchestration: more linear processes that are easier to debug when the aim is to ship value quickly.
  • Integration with modern stacks, emphasizing developer experience, typing and consistency with contemporary TypeScript/JS patterns.
  • Less tightly coupled observability and extensibility: bring only what you need.
  • A shorter learning curve for the core task: an agent solving a problem with tools.

When to migrate

  • You spend more effort fighting the framework than building features.
  • Your graph has become overengineered for largely linear flows with simple branches.
  • You need rapid iteration on tool-driven features such as searching, reading, writing and integrating APIs.

Migration strategy

  • Isolate boundaries: separate core tool adapters from the framework.
  • Port use cases one at a time, beginning with agents that have fewer memory and graph dependencies.
  • Define equivalent observability metrics: latency, cost and tool failure rate.
  • Validate both systems in parallel through a limited production canary or A/B rollout.
  • Write internal guides comparing how to perform the same task in Agno and LangChain.

Conclusion

LangChain/LangGraph played a foundational role in the ecosystem. For many products, Agno provides the essentials with less friction while retaining extensibility. If your team prioritizes speed, clarity and maintenance, migration can pay off early.
